Kingsley Montessori School is housed in two separate, historic buildings in Boston's beautiful Back Bay neighborhood. The buildings are one block apart; one is located on Fairfield Street and one on Exeter Street. They are nestled between the lovely Commonwealth Avenue Mall in one direction, and the bustle of Newbury Street in the other.

Fairfield Street

On the corner of Commonwealth Ave, steps from Newbury Street, is the beautiful brick building that the Kingsley MontessoriThe Fairfield Campus for Early Childhood at Kingsley Montessori School Early Childhood division calls home. Adorned with red Kingsley flags and the ubiquitous Back Bay flower planters, 30 Fairfield Street is a beautiful place for our youngest friends to gather and learn.

Originally a single occupancy home, the building at 30 Fairfield also served as the Newman Preparatory High School from 1957 to 1974. In 1974, the building was purchased by the Kingsley School. From 1974 to 1986, it operated as the Kingsley School; at that point, the school reorganized and expanded into Kingsley Montessori School.

Toddler Classrooms

The lowest level of the Fairfield campus is occupied by two beautiful, garden-level toddler classrooms. Awash with natural light, and with direct access to the Fairfield building's courtyard play space, this level is ideal for our youngest and smallest friends to learn and explore.

Each classroom is outfitted with a hand-washing station, beautiful Montessori materials, and plenty of comfortable places to engage in work time. The bottom floor of the Fairfield building also houses a kitchen space, an exit into the Commonwealth side garden, and an exit into the courtyard space.

Preschool Classrooms

The upper levels of the Fairfield building are home to the Preschool classrooms. Each floor houses two classrooms, identified by the floor number and the nearest crossroad; for example, "Newbury 2." In addition to the classrooms, these floors also house the offices of the Director of Early Childhood and the Admissions team, and, of course, bathrooms for students and staff.

The Preschool classrooms occupy the first, second and third floors of the Fairfield building, and enjoy hours of sunlight and beautiful views of Commonwealth Ave and Back Bay. Each room has a unique layout, designed to make each space as child-centered as possible. Cabinets and shelves of Montessori materials are easily accessible, and students know where and how to set out their work when it's time for independent work blocks.

Resources and Amenities

The Fairfield Campus for Early Childhood at Kingsley Montessori SchoolIn addition to the classroom and office spaces throughout the Fairfield building, there are also a number of other resources and amenities for the students and staff. From the lobby to the top floor, Kingsley makes great use of this historic location.

On the top floor of the Fairfield building, you'll find both the Movement Room and the Library. The Library also serves as a meeting place for Visual Arts class, and many other presentations and gatherings. The Movement Room is equipped with padded flooring, toys, blocks, a swing set and jungle-gym, and a rock-climbing wall. The Movement Room is a great resource for those inclement days, when you still need to use your body to learn.

The Fairfield building also houses a lovely lobby space, beautiful side garden, covered stoop, and vestibule. These areas are perfect for gathering, parking your stroller or scooter, shedding your umbrella, and meeting with teachers, parents or children.

The walled courtyard space behind the Fairfield building provides the perfect space for a quick trip outside, in the safety and security of our own campus. The courtyard is outfitted with a number of outdoor toys and structures, and floored with a cushioned rubber product to avoid injury.

Location

The Fairfield building is located conveniently near Newbury Street, Commonwealth Avenue, and the MBTA Green Line via the Copley or Hynes Convention Center stops. Kingsley campus can also be reached from the Orange Line and the Commuter Rail via the Back Bay station.

This location allows for easy access to the Boston Public Library, the Mary Baker Eddy Library and Mapparium, Boston Common, the Clarendon Street Playground, and more. Research opportunities, historical buildings and monuments, and beautiful green spaces combine to create a vibrant learning environment for our students.
